Butler Area Public Library
The Butler Area Public Library was contacted by a documents dealer who had some 30 letters written by a Martin Johnston, an everyday soldier serving for the Union in the Civil War. Martin was a Butler County citizen and wrote these letters back home to his parents and family, though Martin didn't see anything particularly exciting in the war. He fought in a number of battles and was injured and hospitallized in Washington DC.

The letters have been authenticated and are a fascinating piece of Butler County history, and the price given to the library for the set of letters was $2,500, which was a fair asking price for the historic documents. The library secured a number of donations and was set to purchase the letters, but the Library had a setback with the largest supporter and donator. When COS learned about the situation, the Board decided to make a $1000 donation, giving the Library more than enough money to obtain the letters and keep them here in Butler County!

Because many of our miniature gamers are avid historical buffs and since the Club is always looking for a way to give back to the community, COS felt it would be a great idea to make the donation and name the cause as the Charity for SIBCON IX 2004.

By participating in any of the Charity Events at SIBCON and other COS Conventions, you can have a great time with friends and other gamers while helping to assist local organizations make a difference in the community! Thank you for your contributions over the years!
