The History of the Realm of Allwyn

THE YEAR 1011 (2002) OF THE AGE OF LIGHT...

4/13/1011 AL: In a demonstration of Duchy unity, Baroness Melissa of Northgate, Baron Aaron of Servosa, and Duke von Ghering of Tomicia have lifted all economic restrictions placed between the Baronies. The Royal Mint and Coin Stamps, dating back to the days of Hadran, were firmly under the control of the Duke within Allwyn, where access was restricted in order to control trade between the Baronies during the recent conflicts.

As tension increased between the Baronies because of political scheming and the outbreak of several Barony Wars, the Duke restricted the flow of trade and currency into Northgate from both Servosa and Tomicia. Thus, Baron Aaron was forced to issue Northgate's own currency, which would remain unaffected by the influences of the rest of the Duchy and help to restabilize the Northgate economy. Now after more than a decade, with the restrictions between the Baronies lifted and the free exchange of currency permitted, the Northgate coinage was no longer needed.

The reissuing of the official currency of Allwyn is the latest suggestion by the Baroness in order to ease tensions and hostilities between the previously warring Baronies. The Royal Coins are a strong representation of the history and culture of the Duchy in which so many once took great pride. So far, this latest attempt may prove to be more successful than other endeavors, as it has promoted feelings of unity amongst both the Trade Guilds and the Nobles of the region.

The weave of magic has been altered by some unknown occurrence. The ways of magical power no longer are able to create energies to protect flesh and bone in the same ways. While still offering magical protection from swords and sorcery, more direct methods of life-draining attacks now easily pierce formerly effective magical defenses. Creatures of un-death now must be eyed more warily, as well as spell casters skilled in the ways of Harming or similar magic.

As with most changes that alter the majority of the Duchy's population, these and many other recent changes have brought about a sense of panic in the people. Therefore, the Baroness and other notable officials and representatives have started training willing candidates in the ways of Diplomacy. Also, in an effort to bolster morale and good will in the people, plans are underway to promote the Performing Arts. Already many young Bards have emerged around the Barony, making names for themselves in the eyes and hearts of the populace.

4/26/1011 AL: An unusual weapon emerges sharing the properties of the elemental weapons, but is of acidic properties. A small monastery of monks finally had their honored relic returned to them, while rampant dark elf attacks strike the heart of the town of Battice. And what of the new player on the Barony political scene who entered his name into the Freehold race?

5/24/1011 AL: Chaos erupted within the town of Battice and its inhabitants when a meteor plummeted down in the Freehold of Battice. The crater created by the meteor uncovered a nest of large insect-creatures called Revils, which drew a vast assortment of strange creatures and curious investigators to the area. An asylum suffered a horrific loss of nearly all its inhabitants, with only a doctor and a serial-killer patient left alive to recount the tale of events, while the forces and plans of several liches and other undead of the area were thwarted.

6/7/1011 AL: In the Freehold of Barlow, an undead beholder and its forces were destroyed, uncovering a hidden race of batlike-humanoids. A new tavern opens to great acclaim and even a marriage, while gnolls and kobolds enter into a small war. Meanwhile many of the adventurers of the region form a pact of protection to address problems they feel threaten the safety of all, local landholders and nobles within the Freehold of Barlow held a conference to unify their various properties, and an uprising of rebels and beasts threaten the stability of the Shire of Belenik.

7/5/1011 AL: The power of the Historians is mysteriously returned as entrapped elven spirits return to the natural cycle of existence. A traveling casino rolls through the area, but its wandering customers are ambushed late in the night by the vile black kenku. A rift opens to the lair of a great beast of darkness that all of the adventurers of the area rose to fight, but there's another story of the Darkness itself…

7/20/1011 AL: The Madagan sisters lost their heartstone and sent the adventurers of the area in search of it. What they did find, though, was a druid cursed with lycanthropy, as well a halfling necromancer bent on world domination! Little did they know where things would lead…

8/23/1011 AL: Afflicted people speaking tales of nightmares, strange rumors of a woman wrapped in a cloth, and the emerging of a weapon containing the powers of lightning were just some of recent events. The mountain home of the black kenku is discovered, while the heir to the throne of the Fae was found murdered. More is learned about the powers of the Darkness, or is it? And lo and behold, an assistant healer returns with reports of Captain Styles' successful restoration.

9/20/1011 AL: Battle Arena games are held and a new tavern continues to prosper, but the chaotic events in the area see that these and other joys are short-lived. Broken segments of a Staff of Law, an artifact of the ancient order of Knights of the Leopard, resurfaced, bringing with them a chaotic curse of a past wrong! Each piece seemed to corrupt the region it had come to rest in, but nearly all the pieces were recovered. What happens if the Staff is not reformed before the winds of Chaos sweep over Barlow as they did once in the past? Is this connected to the appearance of undead dragon men? The corruption of the barbarian totems? Whatever the outcome, it seems certain that the Purple Hand will have an influence over the outcome.

11/9/1011 AL: Seeking a safe distance from the chaos surrounding Barlow, some adventurers find themselves in the Folly's End Tavern again, within the Shire of Belinik. A caravan carrying art objects was attacked before they could be sold to help financially support the troubled Shire, and the adventurers were hired to help locate the stolen goods. After encountering Grizzly Bear clan barbarians, Shadefury assassins, and Doom Clan goblins, all the art objects were recovered, much to the relief of the Shire of Belinik's government.
